Harriet Marsh was born Heidi Dunham in Evanston, Illinois and was known
professionally in Screen Actors’ Guild and Actors’ Equity as that until just
this year. Growing up in the Chicago area, she began her acting career early
at the Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan, owned and run by Jack and Betty
Ragotzy. Her mother, Joan Dunham, was the leading lady there for several
seasons and as such the Barn Theatre became her summer playground.
As an adult in New York, Ms. Dunham worked in a variety of venues with
actors and directors such as Jerry Zaks, Norman Gevanthor, Gale Gordon, and
Gene Rayburn. Theatres besides the historic Barn Theatre included The Golden
Apple Dinner Theatre in Sarasota and The Alhambra Dinner Theatre in
Jacksonville, both in Florida. In New York she also appeared in several
television commercials as well as a public television mini-series called
Tomorrow’s Families where she had a major role and was featured in 17 of the
30 episodes. Jerry Zaks cast her in “The Contest” which opened in
Philadelphia for its out of town tryout for Broadway, and unfortunately
ended there.
After having her son, she did two more shows with baby in tow and realized
she wasn’t giving her best to either of the most important areas of her
life. She went on hiatus from the Actors’ unions and raised her son.
Getting back into the business after a 20-year hiatus is a challenge. No
longer the ingenue, Ms. Dunham decided the name change was in order, hence
Harriet Marsh.
For the past 10 years Ms. Marsh has been the CEO of Aurora Information
Systems, Inc. Running a high-tech corporation has given her some special
skills in the voice over arena. Her first voice over assignment as Harriet
Marsh was for Hershey’s Chocolates. She narrated their entire computer based
training program for the new XP operating system and the MS Office Suite of
products.
